Throughout 2019, we in Oldham alongside the Communications Workers Union (CWU) have fought the plans to close down our Crown Post Office.
We have held regular street stalls in Oldham Town Centre from 2018 up until now, with a focus on engaging local people with the issue of losing the post office and the impact its downsize will have on its services in our town. These changes will affect all of us in some way or another.
Over our months of campaigning to save it, we managed to amass over 3,100 signatures on paper, showing a huge amount of support locally for keeping the Crown Post Office where it is. We all can see that a move to te WHSmith shop will be detrimental for all involved.
Myself and the other MPs for Oldham, Debbie Abrahams and Angela Rayner have written to the CEO on multiple occasions expressing our desire to see the Post Office kept open and for them to be open about their plans for it. We have not yet received a response that sets out their plans clearly going forward.
And so we are still in a state of limbo. We are currently awaiting on more news from the Post Office regarding the future of ours.
Please keep updated with the page for more updates on this issue as we move forward in 2019.
